Social Value — Candid Construction Scotland

Our Commitment to Communities

Social Value at Candid Construction Scotland

At Candid Construction Scotland, social value isn't a box to tick — it's built into how we work. From the people we employ to the communities we build in, we are committed to leaving every project area better than we found it. We deliver measurable, meaningful outcomes across individual wellbeing, social mobility, and environmental responsibility.

Investing in People & Communities

We invest in the people and communities around our projects — supporting young people, removing barriers, and creating environments where everyone feels included and valued.

MCR Pathways Mentoring

Our Business Development Manager provides weekly one-to-one mentoring to a care-experienced young person at High Schools in South Lanarkshire, offering emotional support, confidence building, and guidance on future career pathways.

Supporting Young People into Work

We regularly provide work experience placements for local young people, giving them real-world site experience, exposure to construction trades, and the confidence to pursue careers in the industry.

School & Community Donations

We funded hoodies for over 40 pupils at St John Ogilvie High School attending a European music trip — removing visible socioeconomic differences, improving safety, and strengthening school spirit and belonging.

Sponsoring Local Youth Football

We sponsor local youth teams, helping remove financial barriers for local families, promote healthy lifestyles, and create safe, inclusive spaces for young people in our community.

An Inclusive Workplace

40% female workforce with a 20% increase in operational roles. 20% of our team is neurodiverse. 90% staff retention over three years. Flexible working and mental health support via the Lighthouse Construction Charity.

Building Pathways into the Industry

We believe construction can be a route out of poverty and into a rewarding career. We actively create pathways into the industry for young people, invest in training our workforce, and keep our supply chain rooted in Scotland.

School Careers Events

We attend careers fairs across North and South Lanarkshire providing industry insight, CV guidance, and routes into apprenticeships. Recent engagements include a Future Skills & STEM presentation at Cumbernauld High School and a hands-on joinery workshop at Bellshill Academy.

Mock Interviews

We deliver mock interview sessions for senior phase pupils, helping young people build confidence, improve communication skills, and prepare for real-world employment opportunities.

Training & Apprenticeships

92% of staff received accredited training last year. We supported one adult apprentice through to full qualification, promoted a supervisor after internal leadership development, and engage with the NLC Skills Development Academy to shape regional training pathways.

Local Employment & SME Supply Chain

We consistently employ 85–90% local labour and direct 90%+ of supply chain spend to Scottish SMEs — keeping money in local communities and supporting sustainable regional economic growth.

Building Responsibly for Future Generations

We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operations and the projects we deliver. From Carbon Literacy certification to local sourcing, biodiversity protection to waste reduction — sustainability is part of how we build.

Carbon Literacy Certified Leadership

Our Business Development Manager holds Carbon Literacy certification through Keep Scotland Beautiful and acts as CCS's internal Green Champion — driving environmental improvements, advising on greener procurement, and embedding sustainability across our workforce and supply chain.

Local Sourcing to Reduce Carbon Miles

Over 90% of materials are sourced from Scottish suppliers. Combined with local labour, efficient vehicle routing, and consolidated deliveries, this significantly reduces the carbon footprint of every project we deliver.

Biodiversity & Environmental Protection

On sensitive projects such as the Carron Valley Community Centre new build, we delivered biodiversity awareness training, implemented watercourse protection measures, and adapted our programme to minimise disturbance to local habitats.

Waste Reduction & Circular Economy

We reduce waste through accurate ordering, responsible segregation, and reuse of viable materials. We target zero waste to landfill and report recycling performance as part of every project's environmental summary.

How We Track & Report Social Value

We don't just make commitments — we track, report, and evidence them. Social value performance is overseen at director level, monitored monthly through our Integrated Management System, and reported to clients as part of routine project reporting.
