Angela
Angela is a commercially astute and strategically driven Business Development Manager whose expertise spans bid strategy, procurement, and the articulation of Candid's core value proposition: she emphasises quality, diversification, fairness and compliance across every engagement.
She holds full responsibility for creating, developing, implementing, and overseeing Candid's strategic direction, with a clear focus on long-term growth and sustained competitive advantage. Her remit encompasses all procurement tenders, company policies, accreditation management, and ISO compliance; ensuring the business operates at the highest standard of governance and operational excellence. A trusted point of contact for clients and collaborators alike, Angela is recognised for her consultative approach, commercial acumen, and her abliity to translate technical capability into compelling, tangible business outcomes. She is instrumental in positioning Candid Construction Scotland as a reliable and agile partner for large-scale residential new builds and refurbishments, with particular strength in education, community, and public sector projects delivered through Modern Methods of Construction.
Angela's commitment to social value is not incidental. Social value is foundational to who she is. She is deeply passionate about Community Wealth Building initiatives and their capacity to drive meaningful, lasting change. Drawing on 20 years of teaching experience in East Kilbride, Angela understands profoundly that positive role models and sustained investment in young people can and should address the social and health challenges facing communities today. She does not shy away from this belief; she actively seeks out the difficult but necessary conversations, and she challenges where challenge is warranted. She regularly engages with community-led organisations and local schools to support Developing the Young Workforce events throughout the year, and has recently qualified as a trained MCR Pathways Mentor - voluntarily mentoring young people in South Lanarkshire Council high schools who are care-experienced or facing disadvantage. She endorses and actively champions change through education, community engagement, progressive procurement, and responsible business practice. It is, in her own words, where she truly belongs: supporting others by simply being real. (and shhh she has academic writing behind this awarded recently to prove it - not her)
Angela, champions a more efficient and sustainable built environment and is committed to helping clients achieve their Net Zero and social value objectives through strategic construction partnerships. She is a certified Green Champion, formally recognised for environmental stewardship by Business Energy Scotland.
She is a highly effective communicator, operating with equal confidence and sensitivity across private and public sector client relationships. She builds genuinely trusting and nurturing connections with staff and the wider community — including communicating with compassion when welcoming new apprentices through CITB and the Tigers Group from colleges across Scotland. She brings a powerful combination of transferable skills to Candid: organisation, creativity, communication, patience, and an ever-present sense of humour — alongside an unwavering commitment to excellence in service of our clients, our people, our community, and our company.
Angela earned her 1st Dan Black Belt in Shotokan Karate at the age of 14, trained in a local community church hall. She is a vocal advocate for better local facilities and genuinely inclusive leisure options, so that young people in every community have the same opportunity to discover where they belong — free from the barriers of unaffordable costs or limited capacity. She was a pupil at Holyrood Secondary School, Govanhill, Glasgow. 😁
